Happy early Valentine’s Day to me…

On the chocolate cream pie day, I was minding my own business, cooking up some dark chocolate trouble when in walks Spencer with a very large Sur La Table bag.

“What you got there?”, I asked, an unsurpressable grin spreading across my face.

“I don’t know… you should probably check it out…”, he replied.

HOT DAMN! Inside that bag, was the cookware of my dreams, my dream cookware. A 5.5 quart Le Creuset French Oven in the most cheerful seafoamy blue-green! I have wanted one of these since the dawn of Laurie and now I have one! Yay!

Haven’t really cooked with it yet, but I did use it the other night to hold my prepped artichokes. I knew about rubbing cut artichokes with lemons to prevent them from turning brown, but i had no idea that if you plunge them in ice water with vinegar, it works even better! And they look so beautiful, resting in the water in this beautiful, beautiful dish.

Also, I made Hollandaise sauce for the very first time! Completely by hand too, and it was a bit of a success! Hooray! Hollandaise is a little tricky to make, so no process piccies, but I’ll definitely be making it again. Creamy, tangy magic and it didn’t separate or curdle or anything!

Maybe I should go to culinary school…
