This year, I decided that I would not make a turkey. Flat out – no turkey. It was just going to be the two of us and I actually am one of the few people on this planet who has no affinity for leftover turkey sandwiches. So I went a different route… Cornish Game Hens and a whole mess of sides!
So settle in for Thanksgiving 2010… Cornbread -Stuffed Cornish Game Hens, Corn Maque Choux, Garlicky Broccoli Rabe, Butternut Squash Mash and Cranberry Sauce.

Many, many moons ago, there was a delicious crop of asparagus at the markets and I had a serious hankering for slab bacon. After checking out what my fave food bloggers were up to, I decided to try the following hash as a welcome home breakfast for S when he returned from visiting his fam back in DC.
It has elements of all of my favorite dishes… bacon, hearty/filling ingredients and a one-pot nature. All good things, especially when combined in a breakfast!
Without further ado, Asparagus & Slab Bacon Hash!
Started out with about 1/2 pound of glorious slab bacon, cut into chunks…

And now for the main course of our Easter brunch… I decided to go all out and try this Swiss Rösti, which is basically a really fancy, giant hashbrown or latke. It wasn’t especially difficult, but does have a whole bunch of steps, which can be a little daunting! Without further ado, I’m just gonna jump right in…
The main ingredient is obvs, potatoes…

I know, I know… two food posts in a row! I made this breakfast ages ago and just never got around to posting it, so here goes!
To be right to the point, I had some left over bread from my lunch the day before (my standard: brioche w/ salami or some other delicious cured meat and brie) and didn’t want it to go to waste. So of course… french toast!

It’s been cold & rainy for a week and mama needed some chowda. So I made some!
Thanks to RealSimple magazine (which we lovingly refer to as “RealSquare”), I finally came across a recipe for Sweet Corn & Shrimp Chowder – one of my favorite chowders! Yay! I modified it just a bit, on account of RealSimple’s ingratiating habit of under-seasoning, and it turned out super delicious! And relatively inexpensive to boot!
First, I started out with some good hearty ingredients:
1 lb of potatoes (I like red potatoes, but it’s all about preference!)
This Christmas, in lieu of showering people with expensive baubles and goodies, I cooked up a storm! And not just any kind o’ cookin’… I’m talking completely from scratch, homemade, I’ve been cooking for two days cookin’! The menu included:
Breakfast:
Homemade buttermilk blueberry pancakes (for which I successfully whipped egg whites by hand for the first time)
Warm blueberry compote
Crispy bacon
Irish coffee (mmm, Baileys and Whisky…)

Lunch:
We were too full, man!
Dinner:
Fresh slow-baked ham (I actually went to the butcher and purchased a big honkin’ slab o’ pig leg!!)
Butternut squash with quinoa (Spencer took care of this…)
Roasted brussels sprouts (and this one too!)
